If i were you, i would get your teenager to use a heavier bbs which lowers fps. I would recomend that you use .30 bbs it will lower the fps to about 350 or lower which is an average for electric guns out playing airsoft, and for sniper rifles. I do recomend you try this before fully regreting your purchase. I is also a safe fps that will not break skin and leave bruises. My son was using this gun and it had the same problem after getting heavier bbs he has not had this problem.

I am a mom of a teenager. I bought the gun for back yard battles. Thank God we live in the country. It shoots a very long range and I have found it to powerful for what we need. The boys were returning with large whelts that bruised and it also broke the skin. It performed well but it was a regretful purchase.
